Hannibal (pre-play)

All security measures were vulnerable. And perhaps Remus should count himself lucky that it had taken nearly a decade for this to happen.
His chains had come loose, and the storage unit door had just enough slack to make it open-able for something with only paws. Something very, very strong with claws on those paws.
And this was how, in the woods a few miles outside London, in the hour before sunrise, an unnaturally large wolf came to be devouring the torso of a man who had been unfortunate enough to be camping alone.

He left his work for a brief moment, to see what it was all about.
He hid in the bushes, but he could plainly see it; a majestic impossibly large wolf tearing up a man to pieces.
It was a Sight to behold. Hannibal found himself quite in awe.

It stared in that direction, the light catching its big, amber eyes, and it bared its teeth in warning, and let out a low, dangerous growl. One of its paws was lifted up as if it were also a bit in pain, and the blood on the wolf's leg was its own and not from the body. Though any pain didn't seem to bother the wolf. And for a long moment, it looked as if it were about to pounce...
And then the last of the moon dipped into the horizon and the first ray of sunlight replaced it.
The wolf suddenly howled in pain instead and fell backwards as its bones began to break and reform, its fur disappeared, and eventually a naked, shivering man covered in blood was where the wolf had been. And some of the blood was his own; one of his arms had a nasty, nasty gash in it, as if something had taken a bite out of him.

Date: 2022-07-15 03:46 pm (UTC)Hannibal - still in awe of this majestic beast - ran when he realized he'd been spotted. Right to where his own mauled victim lay. He figured that the wolf might eat him instead of Hannibal. (He had other plans for the body, but survival was his first priority).
However, once they were nearing, the wolf stopped and cried out.
Hannibal turned and watched the wolf turn into a man.
He was bleeding and regardless of everything, Hannibal rushed to him to tend to his wound. "Are you in pain?" He asked. They could talk later; this was a priority.

Date: 2022-07-15 04:07 pm (UTC)He looked around wildly, and saw the blood all over him, all of it clearly not his, and out of the corner of his eye the mauled body across the field that looked as if it had been the victim of a wolf attack, and then behind the man kneeling by him, parts of a different body strung up to a tree.
It was... a lot. Also his entire body ached as usual with the addition of his left arm hurting like hell and bleeding profusely.
He nodded to the question, unable to catch his breath, and then felt something... in his esophagus... his body folded over and he wretched... and then in a pile of vomit there was a human ear.

Date: 2022-07-15 04:34 pm (UTC)There were issues with this situation, but for now, Hannibal saw a bit of levity in this predicament. "You might tell the wolf to chew before it swallows," he said, looking at the ear in the puddle of vomit.
Then he tore a piece of his white shirt to bandage the gash as best he could. "You need stitches," he remarked. "Fortunately for you, I'm a doctor. I brought a kit."

Date: 2022-07-15 04:38 pm (UTC)He looked down at his arm, a little in shock still. "The wolf must have chewed through its leg to get the chain off."

Date: 2022-07-15 09:32 pm (UTC)Hannibal followed the man's eyes to the body in the tree. "No," he agreed. Well there was no denying it now.
He got up and got the doctor's kit. "I heard someone screaming and went to look. I found you tearing a lonely camper to pieces," he remarked. "Could you hold your arm up?" He asked as he got ready to stitch the wound.

Date: 2022-07-16 08:12 am (UTC)"How long have you been a werewolf?" Hannibal ventured as he worked. He didn't know these creatures existed, but it was the only thing that made sense.

Date: 2022-07-16 12:14 pm (UTC)And though he was pretty sure he might regret this, he asked, "How long have you been stringing up bodies on trees?"

Date: 2022-07-16 09:32 pm (UTC)"What makes you think I did that?" Hannibal asked. "This may hurt," he said as he began cleaning the wound.

He winced when the sting hit him but stayed still.

Date: 2022-07-17 04:55 pm (UTC)If there was anything of the wolf left in the man, he might smell death on Hannibal, or the blood of that very man strung up in the tree.
And well, the open trunk of the large car behind them could be quite telling. "I suppose I was fortunate it was dawn when I found you," he remarked.

Date: 2022-07-17 06:10 pm (UTC)Remus of course very much wanted to know about the body in the tree. But he also had a strong sense of self preservation at this point.

Date: 2022-07-17 08:50 pm (UTC)Hannibal conceded to that with a nod.
"You need stitches but I don't have a sedative on me. Let's hope the adrenaline coursing through you is enough. Or you might want to bite on a stick." A smile escaped him - it was a funny joke to him, at least.

Date: 2022-07-17 09:00 pm (UTC)Then he added dryly, "Something to bite on might be good though don't expect me to fetch."

Date: 2022-07-18 06:57 am (UTC)Hannibal actually chuckled at that dry reply, appreciatively. He was truly intrigued by this man, but right now, the wound needed tending and that was his first priority. Second on his mind was that he hoped not to have to fight or try to kill this man. First, because he truly didn't want to kill this majestic creature - he wanted to get to know it. Second, because he didn't know if he would win in a fight.
"There," he said after a while. "I'll bandage the wound and you'll be good as new."

Date: 2022-07-18 04:12 pm (UTC)"I don't suppose you have something I can wear?"
no subject
Date: 2022-07-18 06:06 pm (UTC)"Not on me, no," Hannibal replied. He wasn't bothered by nudity. He'd seen plenty of naked bodies in his career as a doctor. "I have clothes at home, if you like. Or perhaps you should go back to the chains you escaped from? Is anyone looking for you?"

Date: 2022-07-18 09:37 pm (UTC)Hannibal followed his glance. "They won't find any evidence there either," he assured the other. "We might help each other keep it that way."

Date: 2022-07-18 09:42 pm (UTC)Though there was a lot of cognitive dissonance in imagining this man to be a murderer, if that's what this was. He was just so... polite. So helpful.
"I would like to forget everything that happened tonight," he said.

Date: 2022-07-18 10:15 pm (UTC)Hannibal nodded, though he had no intention of forgetting this at all.
They walked to the car where Hannibal produced a small towel. "Sit on this, if you don't mind," he requested. He would rather not have his leather seats stained.

Date: 2022-07-18 10:25 pm (UTC)"To keep the wolf contained, you mean?" Hannibal asked and started the car. "It seemed to do quite well for itself."

Date: 2022-07-21 06:10 pm (UTC)"Well, I never heard of any strange wolf attack, so you seem to do quite well," Hannibal complimented. He was somewhat impressed. "Which way to your storage unit?"

Date: 2022-07-22 09:29 pm (UTC)"So you're a doctor?" he said. Part curiosity, part small talk.

Date: 2022-07-22 10:27 pm (UTC)"I am," Hannibal said, leaving the details out of it for now. The less he knew, the less he could google. "How about you? What do you do?"
