The full moon wasn't until the next night, but Remus was already feeling edgy. Mostly he wanted to eat a rare steak and go home and fuck Willy. Except Willy... hadn't been home, even though he'd told Remus he would be. And Remus had baked a pie in anticipation. He'd texted, asking when he'd be home. And he got a response, hours later: probably not home tonight. And then he'd thought... where he probably was... which was with someone else...

Remus left the pie on the counter, put on the new scarf and coat he'd gotten for Christmas, and walked down the street to the nearest bar.

He ordered a rare steak and ate it quickly, and then just sat at the bar sipping bottom shelf whiskey.

Willy came out of the closet with his fiddle.

"What word?" he asked, visibly annoyed.

[mooningremus]

"Be mine?" Remus offered.

[willysilver]

"I don't want you," he snapped petulantly.

The lie immediately made his stomach turn.

[mooningremus]

Remus looked as if Willy had physically struck him.

He couldn't even speak, too shocked and hurt. But even more than that, it was like seeing his life crumble before his eyes.

Willy regretted his words immediately, the look on Remus's face making him ache.

"Remus, I..." he started, then had no idea what to say.

[mooningremus]

Remus took a shaky breath. "You... you come home smelling of someone else so many time. And - and sheets in the bed we share... And you know how I feel about you, and I do this one thing and you..." He looked away.

[willysilver]

He should be glad. It was his opportunity to be rid of Remus. He could be free once again.

But did he want freedom? He was sure he did, but now...

"I have to go," he said. He needed time to think about this before he said something he'd regret even more.

[mooningremus]

"I should go, it's your home," Remus said quietly, as his heart broke.

[willysilver]

"It's your flat," he said. "I only keep it for you."

[mooningremus]

"I. Um." Remus had no idea what to say about that.

And the truth was, he had no idea where he would go, if he left. But maybe he was going to have to find out.

And tomorrow was the full moon. "I suppose if, if you didn't want to be here tonight anyway."

[willysilver]

"Well, I don't need it," he said.

[mooningremus]

Remus rubbed the back of his neck. "Well just... tell me if you want me to leave."

Were they breaking up? Remus idly spun the ring on his finger.

[willysilver]

"Of course I don't want you to leave," he sulked. He desperately wanted to leave, though.

[mooningremus]

Remus was relieved.

"Go if you like," he said quietly. "We can talk later."

[willysilver]

Willy had very little intention of talking about anything. Ever.

"Fine," he said and went to the door. He hesitated, just for a second, then walked out.
